    摘要本文对理工大学10级英语专业20名学生和12级英语专业17名学生在英文写作过程中中英思维模式进行了研究。将实验结果进行对比分析,主要分析其主题句的位置、连词、语法等思维模式的具体表现形式,并在此基础上研究英语教学对学生思维模式的转变有何影响,为进一步提高学生的语言产出能力提出一些尝试性建议。68145

    Title     The Influence of English Majors’’ Thought  Patterns on English Writing

    Abstract

    This paper studied the influence of English majors thought patterns on their English writing based on the analysis of 37 English majors’ both Chinese and English writings on the same topic in University of Science and Technology. It compared and analyzed their English and Chinese writings from the aspects of the position of topic sentence, the uses of conjunction, grammar in order to study the influence of thought patterns and give some tryout suggestions on how to improve students’ abilities for language output. In a word, this paper aims at enhancing students’ textual awareness and reminding them of using textual cohesive devices so that they can produce coherent and high quality writings.

    1. Introduction

    English writing as a kind of language expression is the integrated embodiment of writers’ thought patterns. Thoughts output relies on language. But different nations are different in their culture, economy, politics, history, religion, law, language, and region, etc. As a result, every ethnic group has its own unique thought pattern and it is reflected obviously in its language. In this case, by comparing and analyzing topic sentence, the uses of conjunctions and grammar in students’ writing, this paper intends to find out the influence of English thought on the change of students’ language production and to give some tryout suggestions on how to improve students’ abilities for language output and strengthen students' sensitivity to the difference of thought patterns in order to help them write perfectly in English.

    2. The Previous Studies on the Discrepancies of the Oriental and Occidental Thought Patterns

    Many experts studied the oriental and occidental thought patterns from different aspects. Robert B.Kaplan hold the view that occidental thought patterns are linear while oriental thought patterns are spiral. Westerners’ thought patterns are linear so they are used to speak and write articles in a straight way. The Chinese way of thinking is curve and they are used to say much before presenting their viewpoints(Kaplan 1996:1-20).
