I am most grateful to Associate Prof., my supervisor, for her patient and careful guidance. She has helped me in choosing a suitable topic and guided me through my thesis writing. And when my writing came into trouble, she gave me considerable academic help and constantly supported my writing. Abstract Tea, as a traditional Chinese culture, also has a history of over 300 years in Britain. Since the 16th century, tea has spread into Europe. And among so many European countries, only in Britain, tea formed its culture. In addition, because of the different thought patterns and values between China and western countries, British tea culture is distinguished from Chinese tea culture.
Tea has also brought profound influences on British society, such as changes of food structure, changes of living habits and forming of national spirit.
This paper is a study of the British tea culture and its influence on the British national spirit. And the paper falls into five parts. The first part serves as an introduction. The second part is the overview of the British tea culture. It mainly introduces the incoming and propagation of Chinese Tea, the content of British tea culture and the transformation of tea-drinking custom. The third part is about the tea culture in Victorian Age and analyzes influences brought by afternoon tea. The fourth part probes into the influences on British national spirit through British values, social ethics and consumer psychology. The fifth part functions as a conclusion.

摘要作为中国的传统文化，茶文化在英国拥有三百多年的历史。从十751世纪进入欧洲各国，只有在英国，茶形成了其独特的体系。并且由于中西方在思文模式与价值观等方面的差异，形成了有别于中国的英国茶文化。
茶给英国社会也带来了深远的影响，人们饮食结构的改变，生活习惯的改变，民族精神的形成都与英国自有的茶文化息息相关。
本文主要研究英国茶文化及其对英国民族精神的影响。论文共分为五部分。第一部分是介绍。第二部分为英国茶文化的概述。主要介绍了中国茶在英国的传播，英国茶文化的主要内容和英国人饮茶方式的改变。第三部分主要分析文多利亚时期的英国茶文化，并探讨著名的英式下午茶所带来的影响。第四部分主要通过价值观，社会伦理以及消费观念来探究英国茶文化给英国民族精神所带来的影响。第五部分是结尾。
